Financial Education in Oklahoma
"Expanding Our Horizons"
October 27, 2005 (Pre-conference sessions on October 26, 2005)
The Oklahoma City Branch of the Community Affairs
department of the Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank in partnership with
the Oklahoma Jump$tart Coalition hosted a
conference that brought together local financial education
service providers and stakeholders to explore ways of expanding
opportunities for financial education to all Oklahomans through new
policy and partnership opportunities. Speakers from national and
local organizations discussed: |
- Perspectives on issues and trends in
financial education and how they affect your community;
- Innovative state legislation and policy
options, and what makes them work;
- Program designs and practices that you can
incorporate into your work, and
- Opportunities for engaging new partners in
efforts to expand financial education to all Oklahomans

Entrepreneurship in
Low- and Moderate- Income Communities
November 3-4, 2005
The Community Affairs department of the
Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank in partnership with the Kauffman
Foundation hosted a conference exploring opportunities for and
challenges facing entrepreneurship in low- and moderate- income (LMI)
communities. Invited speakers presented a number of studies
commissioned specifically for this conference. Topics included:
entrepreneurship’s role in reducing problems unique to LMI communities,
entrepreneurship’s current presence in LMI communities, challenges
facing entrepreneurship in LMI communities, and accounting for variation
in entrepreneurial success. The final session provided an overview
of the findings presented and suggested future studies needed in the area
of entrepreneurship in LMI communities. Proceedings will be made
available.

The Keys to Affordable Housing
A Wyoming Association of Housing and
Redevelopment conference sponsored in part by the Federal
Reserve Bank of Kansas City's Denver Branch. The conference, held
in Casper, Wyoming, August 24-26, 2005, explored issues, challenges, and
opportunities that exist in the Wyoming affordable housing development
arena.

Pitfalls: As Consumer Finance Options Multiply, Who is Being Served and
At What Cost?
The Community Affairs officers of the Federal Reserve
System hosted a
research
conference on April 7-8, 2005, in Washington, D.C. Keynote speaker:
Alan Greenspan. The conference presented current research on trends
and innovations in consumer financial markets, with particular emphasis
on low- and moderate-income consumers and on underserved populations.

Diverse Cultures, Common Needs Regional Training Institute
February 7 – 11, 2005, was held in Denver,
Colorado. The institute offered intensive core and specialized
education in such topics as affordable housing, asset management,
community and economic development and management and leadership. |

Housing NOW! Conference was held on October 4 - 7, 2004 in
Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The conference featured nationally
recognized speakers and 40 workshops on affordable housing
development.

Financial Education in Oklahoma
The Financial Education in Oklahoma conference, held on October
27, 2004, provided an opportunity for local financial education
service providers and stakeholders to gain an understanding of
programs currently being offered in the state, share
experiences, and learn about new strategies and resources to
support their efforts.
