Saving the American Dream: Homeownership in a Challenging Market
Oct. 28 in Oklahoma City
The 7th Annual Homebuyer Education Conference “Saving the American Dream” examines practical strategies for serving distressed homeowners and reducing foreclosures in Oklahoma. This conference addresses both of these areas through presentations by national leaders in the fields of homeownership education and protection, and breakout sessions on a wide range of topics relevant to your daily work.

Breakout sessions during the day address practical skills for both helping distressed homeowners restructure and engaging new homeowners in steps to head off crises and disaster. All sessions will be conducted by professionals working with these issues and will provide a very real picture of what can be accomplished in today's challenging market.
Conference registrations are due to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City by the following dates: Early Bird Registration: October 1, 2009; Online Registration: October 20, 2009.

Financial Education in Oklahoma

The Financial Education in Oklahoma Conference brings together financial education service providers and stakeholders to learn about programs offered in the state, share experiences, and identify new strategies and resources to support your financial education efforts. This year's conference will explore innovative policies, programs and delivery methods that can expand and support financial education in Oklahoma during these challenging economic times.

Speakers and trainers from national and local organizations will discuss:
- Innovative approaches for promoting financial empowerment among diverse clients,
- Program designs and practices that you can incorporate into your work,
- Unique perspectives on policies, issues and trends in financial education and how they affect your community,
- Tools for implementation of the Oklahoma Passport to Financial Literacy, and
- Opportunities for engaging new partners in efforts to expand financial education to all Oklahomans.
The conference will include presentations, panels, and participatory training on topics of interest to organizations serving clients of all ages.

Interagency CRA Officer Workshops
Sept. 10 in Denver and Sept. 22, Oklahoma City
Workshops are designed for CRA Officers at small or intermediate-small banks and thrifts interested in obtaining current information and training on CRA regulation, exam preparation and developing a bank CRA compliance strategy. Participants will be provided a resource notebook and engage in case studies and exercises. There is no charge but space is limited to the first 50 registrants. (One per financial institution.) A continental breakfast is provided.

2009 Forum for Cities: Opportunities for Sustainability

The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development are co-hosting this half-day forum that will feature three panels of regional and national experts exploring:
- Emerging Foreclosure Trends and the Impact on Cities and Suburbs
- New Programs and Resources for Cities
- Looking Ahead - Initiatives and Tools for Future Success
The event includes a continental breakfast, box lunch and keynote address by Amanda Sheldon, co-author of Enterprise Community Partners’ new national report: “The Challenge of Foreclosed Properties: An Analysis of State and Local Plans to use the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.” A complete listing of the panels is available. The event is geared to practitioners in local government, community development, housing and finance.

Financial education instructor training for Native communities
May 5 - 7, 2009, Santa Ana Pueblo, N.M.
The CDFI Fund, Oweesta Corporation, AMERIND Risk Management Corporation and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City along with local co-host Santo Domingo Tribe are pleased to offer a comprehensive financial education instructor training for Native communities. This training is being offered as part of the technical assistance services to the Santo Domingo Tribe through the Native Financial Skills Initiative, which is a three-day instructor training and certification program to help Native organizations establish and sustain financial education programs in their communities.

The three day training will address:
- An introduction to the Building Native Communities: Financial Skills for Families curriculum
- Effective training techniques and resources
- Financial education program development planning
Upon completion of the training, participants will be prepared to successfully pass the Building Native Communities certification exam to become certified financial education trainers.
There will be a cost of $25 per person to attend the training and participants are responsible for their own travel costs. Applicants must agree to send at least two and up to four participants.
